Other NEPCAM Community Projects
These children are so poor that, often, two to three children ride the bike to school at the same time and, when not in use for school purposes, they are often used as a portable shop by their parents to sell fruit, vegetables and Khmer cakes. You can see that, helping us with this project has the potential to change the lives of a whole famly in Cambodia. |

NEPCAM Community Projects - Selection Procedure
In developing countries such as Cambodia and Nepal, we engage our wonderful local business partners, registered in their relevant country as a Non-Government Organisation (NGO's) to consult with the local communities and identify projects which will be beneficial to that community. The procedure is now firmly established and works extremely well and smoothly for NEPCAM, our local NGOs and for each of the disadvantaged communities we are aiding. Essentially:
· Each community selected identifies the approximate percentage of a budget it would see, according to their circumstances, as desirable for their community project.
· NEPCAM then provides information to the NGO's advising the amount of money that can be budgeted for assisting the development of the project.
· Our local NGOs have regular contact with poor communities, mainly due to their own initiatives but also, increasingly, as a partner with NEPCAM. The local NGO determines which communities will be contacted so that they can advise them regarding NEPCAM's potential for support.
· The local NGO then holds a series of meetings with the selected communities and invites a local representative in that community to become involved.
· In these meetings, the local NGO asks the community representative to identify their needs and to propose, for support by NEPCAM, specific Community Projects.
· As a result of these meetings, the local NGO records the wishes of each of the local communities. The communities are then asked to detail the specific Community Projects in an order of priority.
· The local NGO then emails NEPCAM with specific proposals for assistance. The NEPCAM Executives then meet and vote on the expenditure of aid funds as determined in the ratio decided by the meetings with each support community.
· In consultation with the local NGOs, the requisite number of Community Projects is then selected according to the available budget.
· NEPCAM serves local communities without any distinction on race, religion, political persuasions or caste.
· NEPCAM does not engage in missionary work or evangelism or political activities.
· NEPCAM does not engage in welfare, it engages in relief work.
With the assistance of sponsors and volunteers, our NGO’s in Cambodia and Nepal provides the following aid to families in their relevant countries:

· feed impoverished families;
· provide medical treatment to over 150 patients per day (that otherwise would have no hope of receiving treatment);
· run education classes for mothers on family planning, child care and food hygiene and builds awareness of gambling, drug and child trafficking issues;

NEPCAM's Past Community Projects
During 2011, one of our generous sponsors, a company called Vital Peripheral Supplies (http://www.vps.com.au/) donated 11 desktop computers which were recently transported to a school run by our NGO in Siem Reap. The school offers free computer technology lessons to children in their district and these computers are excellent educational resources for the teachers and children at the school. The same company is now going to expand on their generosity by providing more computers for the school which will allow their teachers to offer even more students free lessons in computer technology.
During 2010, NEPCAM successfully raised over $57,000.00 for a computer and resource centre for students and teachers in Nepal. The facility is an educational resource centre which is equipped with 26 laptop and 4 desktop computers. These computers are connected to the internet via WiFi with back-up power when Nepali grid electricity is unavailable. In keeping with recent trends and technical developments, an Education Centre of the future worth its salt will be largely electronic and have internet access for portable internet-enabled devices, as well as books and physical resources for teachers.
During 2010, one of our wonderful supporters organised 74 cycle riders to complete what he called a Month of Madness. These cyclists were encouraged to ride between 50 and 100 kilometres every day for 38 days, cumulatively knocking up over 65,000kms. In doing so they raised sufficient funds to pay for 107 bikes which were purchased by NEPCAM in Cambodia. With other bicycles already donated by NEPCAM's sponsors, NEPCAM purchased over 250 bicycles during 2010 and, with the assistance of local school principals, were able to distribute these bikes to poor children in and around Siem Reap. These free bicycles enabled these children to travel easily and safely to school every day. Before receiving their gift, most of the children were spending hours walking to and from their school and the donation will significantly help them to reduce the time spent travelling.
