What is a sponsorship?

A sponsorship is a recurring payment made to NEPCAM to provide an improved quality of life for an impoverished community. There are a few sponsorship options available, those being Child or Student Sponsorships as well as Community Program sponsorships, with payments made annually or monthly.

A Child Sponsorship is an annual commitment to provide support through to the completion of a child's education.

An Education Sponsorship is an annual commitment to provide support through to the completion of a university degree.

A Community Project sponsorship provides the funding and support of non-specific projects such as the building of a school house, installation of a shared water pump or some other activity that a community will benefit from. The sponsorship can be in the form of money, labour or goods.

Do I need to commit to a sponsorship?

All help is greatly appreciated, whether it is a regular sponsorship of a child, student, a community project or a one off donation - The choice is yours.

What is the difference between Child Sponsorship and Student Sponsorship?

Child Sponsorship

The children have had a tough life and, along with their parents and siblings, contend with a daily battle to keep themselves fed. A sponsorship will alleviate the stresses and strains of wondering where the next meal will come from and provide some certainty. A commitment for the duration of a child's schooling to completion of their schooling provides much needed stability and assurance.

Student Sponsorship

For the children who have completed schooling to year twelve, their circumstances, are much the same. They are still poor and will need to contend with looking for food and looking for work. An Student sponsorship is an additional boost for a school leaver and provides the means to improve on the foundations of their education by going to university and upon completion will greatly enhance their job prospects. A university education lasts for 3-5 years depending on the subject. Each year is split into semesters and must be paid for when the student enrols in their preferred course and subjects

How much does a sponsorship cost?

Child Sponsorship

Working out at just under $1.65 a day, the cost of a new child sponsorship is $600 a year or $50 a month which can be paid annually or monthly. A small or regular coffee from your favourite Barista is upwards of $3 each day.

Student Sponsorship

Depending on the chosen course, a sponsorship to put a young student through a degree of their choice is between $450-500, including text books.

Community Project

The amount can be a regular or one-off donation. The amount you donate is entirely up to you.

How does NEPCAM work?

NEPCAM's child sponsorship programs started in 2007. In 2012 we formed a partnership with an organisation called Feeding Dreams Cambodia, ( Feeding Dreams Cambodia is a registered Non-Government Organisation (NGO) based in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Feeding Dreams opened its own school in 2013 and currently caters for up to 800 children each day.

The Feeding Dreams Community Centre provides on-going and emergency support to families in the local district. Services available for the families at the Community Centre include counselling and emergency food and shelter. After NEPCAM has identified a sponsor in Australia, we notify Feeding Dreams Cambodia who then send NEPCAM a profile of a child. This profile is then forwarded to the sponsor and the sponsorship process begins.

Can I select my child?

You can tell us whether you would prefer to select a boy or a girl to sponsor. We will contact our on-ground business partner (Feeding Dreams Cambodia) and request them to nominate a child for you. The child will then be selected using the following selection criteria:-

Whether the child:
· comes from poor economic circumstances
· has a caring mother who values education and who will encourage the child while he or she is at school
· is willing to attend school regularly and is determined to try his or her best to achieve good results

In effect, a NEPCAM sponsorship means a sponsor is linked to a specific child such that his or her future education can be supported and closely monitored through indirect regular contact (letters, emails, photo, school attendance reports and academic progress reports) and that there is an opportunity to visit the child in Cambodia shoud you so desire.

Please be aware that NEPCAM has policies in place for all sponsor-child contact which are compliant with the guidelines set down by ACFID.
